Jack McKeever opened his first bar, Jack’s T&B, on the corner of Taney and Brown Streets in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia in 1969. Jack and his wife, Jeannette, grew up in the neighborhood and knew many of their customers as friends and neighbors for years. Prior to Jack’s T&B, Jack’s father, John McKeever Sr., owned a beer distributor in the neighborhood. Jack’s T&B, later became McKeever’s Tavern when Jack’s sons, John and Robert, came to work at the bar.
In 1985, the McKeevers opened a second tavern at our current location which was built in the 1800s as the North Wales Hotel. A few years later the bar in Fairmount had closed and McKeever’s Tavern in North Wales became the family’s sole operation. Jack and Jeannette continued to work here along with their family until many years later.
John and Robert McKeever now own and operate the tavern. Most of the meals served at McKeever’s are prepared by them in the kitchen every day and night. They also work alongside their sister, Liz, who rules over the dining room as a waitress. They are just a few of Jack and Jeannette’s many children and grandchildren who have worked or still work at McKeever’s Tavern; not to mention our loyal staff who have become part of the family over the years.
We have been in this business for over 40 years and take great pride in serving customers great food and drink and look forward to continuing the tradition.
